In 1824, Parson Fisher completes his last large painting; "A Morning View of Blue Hill." This artistic culmination comes when Fisher decides the town has reached its ideal zenith. This film, traces Fisher’s artwork onto the town’s contemporary landscape. Looking for the place he originally stood, we find a landscape radically changed by shifting values. Where once he could stand at the top of a farmer’s low hill, we must climb up the town’s eponymous mountain to take in a similar vista. This new view is had from protected land yet must carry the weight of future change.

Performance and Digital Projection, 30 minutes, 2022
An outdoor collaborative installation and performance with Blue Hill cross-disciplinary artist Heather Lyon, Blue Hill filmmaker Matt Shaw, Portland choreographer Heather Stewart and South Portland dance and video artist Riley Watts. Using layered video projection and magickal gesture as choreographic material, these artists will transform a rural field in Blue Hill into an ethereal phantom realm culminating in a live video performance event. This group of artists has been gathering video footage in the field over the last year to collaborate with the changing seasonal light and atmosphere. This project is funded by the Kindling Fund through SPACE in Portland as part of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Arts’ Regional Regranting Program.

As weather patterns change, the body responds. Rain melts a brief accumulation of snow and we reassess our expectations of Winter. The effects of climate change become pronounced when a month named for the pearly luster of snow is drenched in freezing rain.
An expanded iteration of the film which included a 40 minute loop slide film taken in Haukijärvi in Febraury 2020, was exhibited at New Systems in Portland, Maine in 2020.

Inspired by the team of public and private efforts in Castine, Maine to preserve and re-plant their elm trees, the film venerates the trees themselves while remaining aware of a reliance on human assistance for them to thrive. Since the 1920’s Ulmus americana has faced a disease that threatens to decimate the species. After being planted across New England as a terrestrial elsyium and emblem of American liberty, and subsequently carried across the country during the late stages of Euro-American western expansion, Ulmus americana now stands as an emblem of our renewed efforts in environmental stewardship.
